Use candy kisses to make these fun Valentine's treats to go with a card you make yourself.

Valentine's Day is a wonderful time of year when people tell those special to them how much they love them. Gifts of candy, flowers such as roses and jewelry are often exchanged. Beautiful Valentine's Day cards are purchased for that special saying we want to share.

Why not to something different this year? Why not make your own Valentine's Day card and make your own flowers as well? It's fun and easy to do.

Valentine's Day cards can be as elegant as you like. Simply use construction paper or card stock. Fold it in half then write your message on the inside. Now decorate your outside. Use silky fabrics, lace, beads and buttons to make a lovely lacy heart. Add stickers and paper cut outs just like the old fashion Valentine's Day cards were made. These are much more special than a store bought card!

Candy Kiss Roses

For each rose you will need:

  • Two chocolate Kisses
  • Red (or you favorite color) cellophane or plastic wrap
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Floral tape
  • Small green leaves – artificial ones or cut them out of construction paper

What you do:

1. Hold the two Kisses with the bottoms together.

2. Cut a square of cellophane big enough to cover the kisses. Put the cellophane over the kisses tightly to hold them together. Twist the extra together at the bottom.

3. Fold the pipe cleaner in half. This is your stem. Lay the ends up against the bottom of the candy “rose”.

4. Start wrapping the floral tape around the pipe cleaner and cellophane just beneath the kisses. Add the artificial leaf near the top of the stem. Continue wrapping the tape down the stem. Overlap the tape and pulling it tight until you reach the bottom. Tear off.

5. Add a bow or small candy heart beneath the rose if you like.
