Easter is such a fun time of year. Not only is it a significant religious holiday, it is a time that ushers in spring as well. And with that comes the thought of budding flowers, bunnies, chicks and Easter eggs. A traditional activity for many families at Easter time is to color Easter eggs. Most people simply go out an purchase a basic dye kit from their local store and create brightly colored eggs. But why not be different this year? You can still use the basic dye but add some fun twists to an old time favorite for extra sparkle.

Getting Started

First off you want to decide if you will use hard boiled eggs or empty egg shells. If you are going to leave the eggs set out for any length of time you might want to opt for the empty egg shells. This is easy to do. Simply poke a small hole in both ends of the egg shell and blow out the egg into a bowl. Use the eggs to make scrambled eggs. Then gently wash the egg shells and let them dry. Now the fun begins.

Dyeing Eggs

Get your decorating off to a start by dyeing the eggs. You can use the a kit or the old fashion food coloring and vinegar way. Color your eggs different colors as a base for decorating. Batik Easter Eggs are one idea you can use to create beautiful Easter eggs. For multi colored eggs dip one end in of the egg into the dye for a few minutes. Then dip the other end in a different color. Layer colors for a rainbow effect. You an also use natural ingredients to dye your eggs.

Animal Eggs

For these eggs you will need small googly eyes, ears, mouths and other body parts cut out of construction paper or fun foam. You will also need tacky glue. Decide what you want your egg to be. If you want it to be a chick first dye it yellow. Then glue on a pair of yellow wings, orange feet at the base, a tiny beak and wiggly eyes. You can make any type of animal you want. Make a base out of an clay to sit your creation on.

Monster Eggs

The idea for this is the same as above only let your imagination run wild! Use pipe cleaners, pom poms and aluminum foil to create your own creature. Color these green and purple for a totally monstrous effect.

No matter what you decide to do with your eggs this Easter think beyond simply coloring. Get creative, have fun and make a whole menegerie of Easter egg creatures.
