Furry, twitchy-nosed bunnies, Marshmallow peep chicks, and little girls in gorgeous puffy dresses and bonnets. Ahh, Easter.
What are some cute keepsake crafts for this, the spring-iest of all holidays?
Why not create your own fun Easter bonnet? Get some neighborhood kids together and dig out some old spring hats from the attic (if you can’t find those, straw hats are cheap at craft stores). Use brightly colored silk or plastic flowers, feathers, beads or glitter to help the kids decorate the hats, and be sure to take lots of pictures of their “Easter parade!”
These crafts are simple to assemble. Order carrot treat holder craft kits, they come complete with all the supplies needed to create 12 holders (for only $5.95!). Or, you could create your own carrot treat holders with orange and green craft foam. Fill the carrot treat bags with chocolate eggs, orange and green jellybeans, or Easter stickers.
One of the easiest Easter crafts is simply to have kids decorate eggs. Try something new and buy brown eggs - the colors created by dyeing brown eggs are completely different and very lovely compared to plain white eggs. Collect white crayons so the kids can personalize Easter eggs with their names. Or, consider buying wooden eggs, glitter and craft paint so that the eggs can become a keepsake year after year (be sure to have kids put the year on their creations).
This craft is easy to create but will be treasured forever. You will need an inexpensive frame (from the dollar store), construction paper, craft foam, markers and 3-5 photos. Cut a piece of construction paper to the size of your frame. Cut out or draw flower shapes (simple 5-petal daisies are easiest). Cut the photos so they are round and make them the ‘center’ of the flowers. (One thing that makes excellent ‘grass’ is the green plastic ‘grass’ from sushi- ask your favorite sushi restaurant or grocery store to give you some.) Make sure the year appears on the framed ‘garden’ and choose the lucky recipient.
This is a quick, simple craft good for a large number of children- for example these are great to give out as ‘favors’ to a classroom of kids. Simply take a cardboard egg carton, spray paint it in a spring color, and cut the 12 egg container sections out separately. Poke holes on each side of each egg holder. Use pipe cleaners to create a ‘basket handle.’ Kids can decorate the ‘baskets’ with stickers or beads. Fill each ‘Easter basket’ with tiny jellybeans.
