Supplies and Materials for an Angel

Directions to Make an Angel

  1. Cut an egg cup section out of a paper egg carton and paint the outside of the cup white. Make sure the paint is not too watery or it will make the egg cup soggy. Before the paint has a chance to dry completely, roll the egg cup in gold glitter. Tap the egg cup onto waxed paper to get the excess sparkles off and then set aside to dry.
  2. Cut a piece of plain white paper into a rectangle 5 inches by 4 inches and fold that piece in half length ways and then unfold the paper. Cut along the fold of the paper to create two identical rectangle shapes 5 inches by 2 inches. Accordion fold one of the pieces of paper starting on the narrow edge. Tape around one end of the finished accordion to create a fan. Accordion fold and tape the other piece of paper in the same manner.
  3. Turn the egg cup upside down so the four edges of the cup are resting on the table to make the angel’s dress. On the taped part of one wing, cut a V notch on either side of the strip of paper, so that the paper can be twisted easily. Do the same to the other wing. Attach the two accordion fans taped end to taped end on one side of the overturned egg cup twisting at the notches before applying hot glue. Twisting the paper helps the wings to fit closely to the angel's body.
  4. Glue a 1 inch pom-pom to the top of the dress to make the angel’s head. Use raffia or yarn to make hair and then make a circle out of gold pipe cleaner for a halo. Decorate the bottom of the dress with ribbon or lace to cover up the uneven edges of the egg cup. To use as an ornament, hot glue a loop of ribbon on the back for a hanger.

If using plastic egg cartons is preferable, wash in a dishwasher first and paint the outside of the cup as per the above instructions. The translucent quality of angels made with the plastic egg cartons make them the perfect accent for holiday displays using candles and mirrors.
