Father's Day Cards Kids Can Make

Paper Craft Greetings for Children to Give to Dad

Jun 11, 2008 Christy Jones

Here are two cute, simple cards kids can make for Father's Day. These cards require only basic craft supplies such as colored paper, markers, scissors, and glue.

Father's Day cards are always a thoughtful gift, especially when they're homemade with love. This father's dad heart (made from the letters of "Dad") and adorable superhero card are fun for kids to make, and sure to let dad know just how special he is.

Dad Heart

This simple, heartfelt card uses the letters of “DAD” to make a heart. You can draw your own heart and letters, or download a Father's Day card heart template in PDF format. (You may want to print two copies and cut up one for the letters and one for the heart.)

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 sheet of red construction paper or cardstock
  • 1 sheet of contrasting color of construction paper or cardstock
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue
  • marker

Make the Dad Heart Card

  1. Draw two large bubble-letter “D”s, each about 4 inches tall, on a piece of colored paper.
  2. Draw a large bubble-letter “A,” about the same size as the “D”s or a little smaller, on the colored paper.
  3. Cut out the “D”s and the “A.” Use a pencil or scissors to carefully punch out the empty space in the center of the letters so that you can cut out the centers.
  4. Place the “D”s on the red paper with the curved sides facing in opposite directions, so that they form the top of a heart. Place the “A’ underneath the “D”s. Glue the letters to the red paper.
  5. Draw or trace a large heart around the letters. Cut out the heart.
  6. Write Happy Father’s Day, or a special note, on the bottom part of the heart.

Super Dad

To let dad know he’s your superhero, why not make a card that shows him as a super dad? You can draw the face, or cut out and glue a photo of dad’s face to the top of the card. If you want to make this card easier, download a Father's Day superhero card template in PDF format.

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 sheet of red construction paper or cardstock
  • 1 sheet of blue construction paper or cardstock
  • scraps of white, black, and flesh-colored paper
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue
  • marker

Make the Super Dad Card

  1. Draw or trace a cape on red paper. Cut out the cape.
  2. Draw or trace a body with arms and legs on blue paper. Cut out the body and glue it to the cape.
  3. Cut a chest plate from white paper. Glue the chest plate to the front of the body. Write “DAD” on the chest plate. Or simply write “DAD” on the body.
  4. Cut hands from flesh-colored paper. Glue the hands to the ends of the arms.
  5. Cut shoes from black paper. Glue the shoes to the ends of the legs.
  6. Cut a circle for a head from flesh-colored paper. Draw a face and hair on the head, or use a scrap of paper for the hair. Or use a photo for the head. Glue the head to the body.

It would be really good to have a photo of the finished product, as I can't seem to get mine right and I'm not sure what it is actually suppose to look like.
