Quick and easy kid's craft - just in time for the country's birthday party.

The 4th of July is a wonderful time of celebration. Fireworks, picnics, family and friends are all part of the Nation's birthday celebration. This year you can make it even more special by adding some fun and easy decorations you can make yourself. Make one of these Fourth of July wreaths for your own front door and one for grandma's house or to give to a friend. Share the crafting fun with all your friends.

Make Your Own 4th of July Wreath

You will need:

  • paper plate
  • ribbon or yarn
  • construction paper - red, white and blue
  • Foam or paper letter stickers
  • items to decorate your wreath - stars, sequins, glitter
  • glue
  • hole punch
  • crayons or markers

What you do:

  1. First think about what you want your wreath to look like. You might want to color the outer edge of the paper plate, the ribbed part, before you glue anything on. If you want to color the wreath do that before anything else.
  2. Cut out some flags or stars to glue around the wreath. Decorate your stars with glitter. Place the flags and stars around the edge of the paper plate to form a wreath. Overlap them so you cover the plate completely around the ribbed edge. Add ribbon, sequins, star stickers or other items in between the stars and flags.
  3. Next punch a hole in the top of the flag. Cut a long piece of ribbon or yarn and thread it through the hole. Tie it at the top. You will use this to hang the wreath up on the wall.
  4. In the middle of the plate use the letters to spell the words Happy 4th of July or even Happy Birthday (it is the United States birthday). Draw some fireworks in the middle and add glitter for sparkle before you spell the words on the plate.
