Tell the story of Easter and Jesus with resurrection eggs. With just some plastic eggs and a few items found around the house it's easy to create this meaningful craft.
You don't have to break the bank buying a set of resurrection eggs at the local Christian store this Easter when you can make them at home for a fraction of the cost. Children and adults will enjoy crafting their very own set of resurrection eggs and sharing the story of Jesus' gift of forgiveness and eternal life over and over again for years to come.
Materials You Will Need to Make Your Resurrection Eggs
An empty egg carton, cut in half so that six slots for eggs remain
Six plastic Easter Eggs
Craft Paint
A small piece of rope, cut to approximately 1-inch in length
A toothpick
A small wooden cross; you can make this by gluing together two small twigs to form a cross.
A nail
A small rock
Permanent marker
How to Assemble Your Resurrection Eggs
Paint/decorate your egg carton as you desire.
Put the rope, toothpick, nail, wooden cross and rock into one of the plastic eggs. All of the plastic eggs should contain an item, except one. The remaining plastic egg will stay empty.
Number the plastic eggs with a permanent marker. The egg with the piece of rope is number one. The egg with the toothpick is number two. The egg with the wooden cross is number three. The egg with the nail is number four. The egg with the rock is number five. The empty egg is number six.
Put the plastic eggs into the painted/decorated egg carton.
How to Tell The Story of Jesus' Resurrection with Your Resurrection Eggs
Open the first egg, and pull out the piece of rope. Explain how the Roman soldiers arrested Jesus and beat him.
Open the second egg, and pull out the toothpick. Explain that the toothpick represents a thorn, like the crown of thorns that the soldiers placed upon Jesus' head. They mocked him and dubbed him "The King of the Jews."
Open the third egg, and pull out the cross. Explain that the Roman soldiers forced Jesus to carry the cross on which he would be crucified.
Open the fourth egg, and pull out the nail. Explain that the Roman soldiers drove a nail into Jesus' hands and feet and hammered him to the cross, where he died.
Open the fifth egg, and pull out the rock. Explain that the soldiers put Jesus into a tomb and sealed it with a large rock.
Open the sixth egg, and reveal that it is empty. Explain that Jesus is alive and rose again so that you may have eternal life and live with him forever in Heaven when you die.
Crafting resurrection eggs to tell the story of Jesus' gift of forgiveness and new life is a meaningful Easter activity to do at home with family or in a classroom setting.
