Christmas tree crafts are fun and make great decorations for the holidays.

Miniature Christmas trees are a fun addition to any holiday decor, especially since many people feel that the holidays aren't really here until they see some Christmas trees. Families that don't have room for traditional trees or just like to have more than one tree during the holiday season may want to make one of these Christmas tree crafts.

Button Covered Christmas Tree

For people with a stash of buttons, a button tree is the ideal craft. Supplies include a Styrofoam cone or a cone made from lightweight tagboard, buttons, rhinestones, tissue paper, felt, craft glue, hot glue and a glue gun.

  • Use the craft glue to cover the cone with tissue paper. Ideally, the tissue paper should be the same color as the buttons. This step ensures that any gaps between buttons won't be noticeable when the project is complete.
  • Beginning at the top of the cone, use the hot glue gun to glue on a layer of buttons. Choose buttons that do not have shanks so they will create an even base layer. Try to place them so that they are touching each other. There will still be gaps between the buttons, but they will be covered eventually. Avoid using all of the decorative buttons on this layer.
  • Once the first layer is in place, it is time to add the next layer. Buttons with shanks are ideal, since the shanks can fit into spaces between buttons on the bottom layer. Be sure all the gaps in the first layer are covered.
  • Add rhinestone "ornaments" to the button tree.
  • Cut a piece of felt to fit the bottom of your Christmas tree and hot glue it into place.

Ribbon Covered Christmas Tree

This simple Christmas craft uses a cone base, ribbons, rickrack, beads, hot glue, and felt.

  • Cover your cone with ribbons, making sure to secure them with hot glue. You may want to create a design that is an organized row of ribbons running around the cone horizontally around the cone, but randomly crisscrossed ribbon strips also create a charming effect.
  • Once the cone is completely covered with ribbons, it is time to decorate the tree with rickrack and beads. Arrange them on the tree until you are satisfied with the way they look and then glue them into place.
  • Make a base for your tree from the felt and use the hot glue to secure the base.

More Christmas Tree Craft Ideas

There are many other wonderful Christmas tree crafts. Handprint Christmas trees, felt trees cut from cookie cutter shapes and decorated with buttons or sequins and pinecone Christmas trees are just a few craft ideas for preschoolers.
