Simply buy a bag of plaster of Paris from a craft store. You will need a small amount depending how many children are participating.

  1. Be sure to mix the plaster with water in a disposable bowl to a consistency of a thick liquid. Have your child sit on a chair with newspaper underneath and cup his hands, keeping the baby fingers together as well as the bottom of the palms.
  2. Spoon the plaster into your child’s cupped hands and allow for a few minutes to set. Ask your child to keep their movement to a minimal to prevent cracking. The plaster will heat up as it is drying. When this occurs removed from your child’s hands and continue to dry for an additional twenty four hours.

* You can paint the shell once it is completely dry or leave white.

I really like that teaching small kids to make gifts is a great life lesson. Not only do they mean the most to the person receiving them, but the child gains a real sense of pride for creating them.
