Who appreciates handmade gifts more than a mom? Here are some great craft ideas that kids can make to show mom how much she is loved on this day and every day.

As Mother’s Day approaches, there is really no better time to get crafty with the kids. Moms appreciate those little handmade treasures more than anything else. Whether it is a handmade card or a picture frame painted and decorated, be sure that Moms will love the gift this Mother’s Day. If you are looking for some fun and easy Mother’s Day crafts, here are a few ideas to get started with.

Framed Handprint

This cute craft is easy and inexpensive, but will probably work best for younger kids with smaller hands. These are also simple to make with a group of preschoolers, Sunday school, or scouts.

For each handprint you will need: one small wooden embroidery hoop (it needs to be big enough to fit the child’s hand inside), sturdy white fabric, fabric paint in your choice of color and lace or ribbon.

To begin: Cut the fabric in a circle, big enough to fit snugly inside the hoop. Before placing inside the hoop, paint the child’s hand with fabric paint and press onto the fabric. If you have room, you can do both hands. When it is dry, place inside the hoop and pull tightly from the back. You can even glue the back of the hoop so that the fabric doesn’t slip out. Glue the lace or ribbon around the edge of the wooden frame. Write the child’s name and year on the front using a permanent marker or fabric paint.

Mother’s Day Sachet

All moms appreciate the sweet smell of sachets. She can hang it in her closet or put in her dresser drawer. Make several so mom can have a few to choose from.

For each one, you will need: tulle fabric in your choice of color, sweet smelling potpourri, rubber band, ribbon, small decorations such as little flowers, or buttons.

To begin: Cut a six inch circle out of the tulle. Place a small amount of potpourri right in the middle. Gather the edges of the fabric and close tight with the ribbon band. Cover the rubber band with a pretty ribbon and glue decorations to the front of the ribbon for a pretty touch.

Coupon Book

This is a classic gift that all moms will appreciate. Make a book with about 8 pages using thick cardstock paper. The pages can be cut into thirds or fourths if you choose to make it smaller or to fit in an envelope. Punch two holes on the side and thread ribbon through the pages to tie closed. One each page, help the children write a coupon for mom and draw a picture. Use ideas such as: coupon for lots of hugs and kisses, coupon for breakfast in bed, or coupon for dusting the house.

Memo Board

This is another easy craft you can make in no time. Mom can hang it on the wall or add magnets on the back to hang on the fridge.

For each one you will need: one wooden ruler, three wooden clothespins (colored plastic clothespins also work fine), acrylic paint in your choice of colors, and a glue gun.

To begin: start by completely painting the ruler in your choice of color. You will also want to paint the clothespins. When everything is dry, hot glue the three clothespins on the ruler equally spaced apart. This can be a great place for mom to hang memos, notes or pictures of her favorite kids.
