Preschoolers can get into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day with these fun crafts. They are easy to make and fun to use.

St. Patrick’s Day automatically brings to mind shades of green, leprechauns, and shamrocks. Give preschoolers a terrific day by creating some of the following St. Patrick’s Day crafts.

Blarney Stone Craft

In Ireland, the Blarney Stone is found at the famous Blarney Castle. This world-famous attraction features a long and winding spiral staircase. At the top, the Blarney Stone sits waiting for people to kiss it. The legend is that people who kiss the Blarney Stone will be given the gift of eloquence when speaking. Here’s a cute craft for a preschooler that will let her have a pet blarney stone.

Materials:

  • 1 flat and smooth rock
  • Green paint
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Craft glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Decorations, such as glitter, yarn, markers, or buttons

Instructions:

  1. Wash the rock and let it dry.
  2. Paint the rock with green paint, then let it dry.
  3. Once it is completely dry, glue on a set of eyes. This is the side the face will go on.
  4. Help the child create the rest of the face with the decorations. Try using sequins for a mouth and yarn for hair. Draw eyelashes in with a marker. Let all the glue dry.

A Preschooler’s Own Pot of Gold

St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a pot of gold from the end of a rainbow. Here’s a unique idea to help a child create her own special pot of gold.

Materials:

  • One Cornet bowl
  • Green paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Craft glue
  • Decorations, such as gold glitter, sequins, or anything else sparkly
  • Gold wrapped chocolate coins

Instructions:

  1. Turn the bowl upside down and have the child paint it green. Let the paint dry completely.
  2. Help the child decorate the bowl with any of the sparkling decorations.
  3. Once the glue dries, add some chocolate covered coins to complete the “Pot O Gold!”

Leprechaun Bookmarks

This is a really cute craft for a preschooler that can be used to keep her pages marked in her favorite book. It only takes a few minutes, but children love the results.

Materials:

  • Wide craft sticks
  • Green thick construction paper
  • Small printable of leprechauns
  • Crayons and markers
  • Craft glue

Instructions:

  1. Let the child pick her favorite leprechaun and color it.
  2. Glue the leprechaun and cut out around the picture.
  3. Help the child glue the leprechaun to the craft stick. Allow to dry.

Try this same craft with rainbows and shamrocks.

Shamrock Puppies

This is a terrific craft for a preschooler to create a shamrock puppy.

Materials:

  • Shamrock cutouts found on the Internet
  • Cardboard or file folders
  • Crayons, markers, and colored pencils
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Little pom pom for a nose
  • Red yarn for mouth
  • Craft sticks
  • Craft glue

Instructions:

  1. Have the child color the shamrock. Turn the shamrock upside down so the two bottom leaves look like puppy ears.
  2. Help the child attach the wiggly eyes and nose. Use pieces of yarn for the mouth.
  3. Cut out the shamrock and glue it to the file folder. Cut around the shamrock.
  4. Help the child attach the shamrock to the glue stick.

Now she has one shamrock puppy. This is a fun craft for daycare or preschool.

These St. Patrick’s Day crafts for preschoolers are sure to be a big hit. Preschoolers will have fun creating a Blarney Stone, a pot of gold, or a Leprechaun bookmark. Take a few moments today with a child. He will love the attention and time.
