Hand Print Turkey
Materials:
Brown and red construction paper
Coloured feathers
Googly eyes
Scissors
White glue
Trace the child’s hand onto brown construction paper and cut the shape out. Use this first hand print as the template to make as many hand print turkeys as desired.
Cut one throat wattle, sometimes called a beard, out of red construction paper for each turkey by tracing the end of the child’s pinky finger. Glue the wattle onto the thumb of the hand print so that it hangs down from the tip of the thumb. The thumb will be the head of the turkey .
Glue a googly eye onto the thumb and decorate each of the four fingers with feathers.
When dry, use the hand print turkeys as invitations to a Thanksgiving dinner or as place cards for the table.
Thanksgiving Hand Print Wreath
Materials:
Brown, yellow, orange and red construction paper
White glue
Scissors
Small acorns and pine cones
Depending on the number of children contributing to the fall wreath, trace each hand print onto at least two colours. Ten hand prints make a nice sized wreath.
Glue the hand prints with the bottom of the palms slightly overlapping and the fingers pointing out from the centre of the wreath. Make sure smaller hand prints are arranged on top to be more visible.
Add small acorns and pine cones for the finishing touch and hang with a thin ribbon glued onto the back of the wreath.
Use as an Autumn door decoration or give as a gift to celebrate the fall season.
Thanksgiving Cornucopia with Hand Print Leaves
Materials:
Brown, yellow, orange and red construction paper
Clear tape
Scissors
Candles, gourds, small pumpkins, leaves, small branches, raffia, small apples
Make a cornucopia with brown construction paper by rolling the paper diagonally making one end narrower than the other. Tape the overlapping paper to make the funnel hold its shape. Cut the two square corners at the mouth of the cornucopia to make a rounded opening.
Trace and cut out a number of hand prints in different colours and sizes. These hand prints will be the leaves that line the bottom of the cornucopia and spill out onto the table top.
Place clear candle holders, gourds, small pumpkins, small apples, raffia, dried leaves, and branches in and around the cornucopia, on top of the hand print leaves.
This craft makes a lovely centrepiece and the whole family can contribute to the finished product.
