Every year classes have parties to celebrate Valentines Day. The box decorating contest is always a fun activity. Here is an idea that wins every time!

The Valentine's box is a staple in elementary school classrooms. Each year on Valentine's day, children go from box to box and place valentines in them for their friends. Many schools have a contest to see who has the most creative and decorative valentine's day box. Here is an idea which has been proven to win contests over and over again.

Supplies Needed for Your Valentine's Day Box

Very few supplies are needed to create this box. Other boxes can be substituted for the shoe box, and anything sharp and round can take the place of the ice pick (a pencil may even work). Using a shoe box makes it much easier to get to the Valentine's because the lid can easily be lifted off. The main supplies needed for this great Valentine's day box are

  • a shoe box
  • an ice pick (or pencil)
  • a box of white Kleenex
  • a box of pink Kleenex

These supplies will be the main staples of your craft. They will enhance and bring your Valentine's Day box to victory.

How to Make the Valentine's Day Box

Making the winning Valentine's day box is simple. You first take the lid to the valentine's day box and create a small rectangular cut out for the valentines to be placed into. After making the rectangle, poke holes all over the lid with the ice pick or pencil. It is a good idea to keep the spacing about 1/2 an inch apart in even rows. Continue to poke holes on the four sides that face out of the bottom part of the shoe box.

After poking the holes, now decide what pattern would be best to create with the colored Kleenex. It is recommended to put a few rows of the pink color and a few rows of the white making it almost striped. Once the colors have been decided on, it is now time to begin making it look like a winning Valentine's day box.

The next step is to begin pulling a Kleenex through the hole. It is sometimes easier to twist the tissue to make it fit easier. It should be pulled approximately halfway through. Continue to do this with each hole that has been poked into the box. Adjust how much to pull the Kleenex through to your liking.

Enjoy Your New Valentine's Day Box

It was always neat to walk to school with this big fluffy box. Everyone will gawk and be impressed by it as the student is walking into school. It is a box that will only work on Valentine's day because it is so cute and fluffy. It is unique enough to win any box decorating contest. If the rectangle opening is difficult for people to put larger valentines in, it is handy that the shoe box lid can come off easily and be placed back on. It is always a great feeling to make homemade crafts. A Valentine box is being made along with a memory that will last a lifetime.
